Zen Heart
Buddhist Chant – Heart Sutra (Japanese) Hannya Shingyo

How do YOU meditate? What works for you? What do you feel in your body? I know I’m not the only one to admit that I have a difficult time meditating. Here are some answers I received from the above question on an interactive Conscious Evolution site last year. I hope one of these methods will help you on your meditative journeys.

Method #1:

Ritual is very important to my meditation practice. In my practice that includes meditating at the same time every day: incense, a lit candle, acknowledging the four directions and an opening prayer and music. I have been influenced by Zen meditation, yoga relaxation and breathing practices, visualization techniques, mantra repetition and even dancing techniques to name a few. My meditation experience changes from day to day as sometimes it is very contemplative of my life; some days I feel connected to nature or I find myself praying for peace, compassion and love. At times my meditation takes me into a void where there is no thought or it can be very visionary where I receive insights about my life and that of others around me; sometimes I even see things far into our future. Every once in a while, I am BLESSED with feeling an all-loving presence that permeates my whole being with happiness and love. What is constant and most important about my meditation practice is that it has become as essential to my life as breathing air is for all of us. Best of all, I have seen how my behavior in my everyday life has become (for the most part-who is perfect?) a mirror of the peace and compassionate feeling I tap into when I meditate. I have been meditating for 20 years. May you have a blessed journey. From Pablo (Evolve Community Café)

Method #2

Good question. I use a very unstructured approach, working toward the goal of making all my waking and sleeping moments meditative. If I am walking (or cycling), I develop a rhythmic cadence of affirmation around some issue (health, harmony, love, etc) and pace the affirmation to my pace. For instance, I like an eight-step pace and this harmony affirmation works well for me, “I am one with the universe and all things in IT. Not my will, but thine be done.”

My hypnosis/hypnotherapy training has taught me that trance induction is easy. I use the following sequence of statements repeated sub-vocally (and paced with normal breathing cycle) to induce both trance and meditation: “Relax now. Release now. Renew now. Refresh now. Live now. Love now. Heal now. Grow now. Peace now”.

I try to be in nature everyday, whether it is watching ants in my backyard or fishing on the local rivers and lakes. That is meditation to me. I also use spontaneous free-associative journaling as part of meditative practice. I picked this up from Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way.” She calls such discipline “morning pages” and there is no doubt that this approach has great power to center one in meditative action and intuition.

I guess what I am seeing from what I am saying is that I am highly kinesthetic and prefer action meditation to passive meditation…and if you hadn’t asked the question, I would not have realized this. Bravo. Hope that makes some sense. Nick (Evolve Community Café)

Method #3

I meditate early in the morning — it’s a big part of my life. About four years ago I went on a weekend retreat in Oxford to the Brahma Kumaris and learned to meditate by Raj Yoga which means meditating with your eyes open. At first it was difficult but Discipline is the key. It calms my working mind and psychologically-wise, I am more at peace. Molly

Method #4

I read this in The Evolution Angel by Dr. Michael Abrams and liked it, so will share it with you.

The angels believe that we lost the ability to communicate with God directly when the churches put in a go-between for communication. These angels give us permission to use God’s name, which is Yahweh, in meditating with God to connect at a deeper level and on an evolutionary plane. Yahweh is the name referred to in the Lord’s Prayer. It is the name in the Judeo-Christian tradition that is said to be so sacred that it is never to be uttered aloud.

If you dwell on this name in your mind over and over, day after day, month after month, all good things will come to you. Do not use the name in an empty, mechanical manner. Repeat the name silently within. Saying the name over and over helps you to overcome that inner chatter.

Here’s how it’s done:

1) As you say the name your thoughts should gradually slow and lengthen. Repeat each syllable rather slowly. Saying each syllable in about a second and then lengthening it to 3-4 seconds with a little rest between syllables. It will feel good when you hit the correct cadence for you.

2) To further enhance the technique, breath in on the “Yah’ and exhale on the “Vay.” Your breath should be smooth, peaceful and in a leisurely fashion.

3) When you get that part down, add in the heartbeat. Visualize and feel the sounds, along with your breath, flowing in and out of your heart.

The Angel’s say that this mediation will fix everything in your life and put it back into balance. You start developing in ways you never thought possible and at an astonishingly rate–with less pain.

Yes. This sounds like the meditation for me.

Zen Heart
Rate my Pokemon Heart Gold team?

Pidgeot lv 52- U-turn, Fly, Quick Attack, Wing Attact

Feraligatr lv 55- Crunch, Ice Fang, Avalanche, Surf

Snorlax lv 55- Crunch, Giga Impact, Rock Climb, Shadow Ball

Ampharos lv 55- Thunder, Discharge, Signal Beam, Focus Blast

Latias lv 52- Water Pulse, Dragon Pulse, Psychic, Zen Headbutt

Typhlosion lv 58- Shadow Claw, Earthquake, Flamethrower, Eruption

i’d trade latias for a solid dragon type to fit into my team because i don’t like using legendaries
if it helps i have all 16 badges and im training for red and the elite 4 at mt silver
yes my team is ingame and i know wing attack sucks but im waiting for air slash

My guess would be that your team is an in game team and you want us to rate your team in comparison to reds team and the elite 4 as that is your ultimate goal.

Your Pidgeot is good with U-turn and Fly but wing attack is useless, if you are looking for a 1 turn flying type attack then go for air slash as it will still deliver STAB (same type ability bonus) and has a chance of flinching your oponent. Quick attack is useless too due to oly 40 damage, if you are worried about speed then possibly tail wind could be a solution or you could use roost for safety.

Feraligatr is decent, the whole 2 ice type attacks isn’t so great. Aqua tail would be a better choice of water move than surf as aqua tail is physical and surf is special. Feraligatr has more attack (physical) than special attack (special). Instead of avalanche/ice fang you can use earthquake. It has very good type coverage.

Snorlax is also decent. Snorlax has an attack stat much higher than its special attack so shadow ball isnt a great choice. i keep crunch and rock climb but change giga impact and shadow ball for selfdestruct and curse.

Ampharos is the best pokemon on your team so far, great type coverage and it is making good use of its special attack but is thunder really needed when you have discharge? Safeguard will stop any status problems for your whole team for 5 turns, that is my choice or a thunder replacement.

I will not rate latias as you are like me, not a fan of using legendaries.

Last but not least Typhlosion, there is very little wrong with your choice of moves here, you have a good damage eruption but if your hp starts to get a little low you have flamethrower to back you up. Earthquake is great and shadow claw is good for type coverage.

I say that i you get your team up to about level 65 and you have good items to equip your team then red is going down. In all honesty, Red is a bit of a disappointment in my eyes as he went down rather easy.

Your team, when talking about types is very good. You have only 4 shared weaknesses with a pure dragon type is introduced (Electric, Ice, Ground and Rock). Electric can be soaked up by ampharos, Ice by Feraligatr, Ground by Pidgeot and Rock by any of the neutrals (Snorlax, Ampharos, Feraligatr and the dragon type).

One thing i will say, Red loves Blizzard and it is hailing up where you fight him so it will never miss. Watch out for that as his Snorlax and Blastoise (possibly more but i cant remember) have it.

Dont forget to bring healing items and revives.

Good luck.

Happy Heart
Etana- Happy Heart (Official Music Video)

“Stress” is the buzz word, we live a lot nowadays, reading in newspapers, magazines and watching seminars being organized as stress management, workshops being conducted for time management and counseling etc. These workshops start at the school level only.

Are we getting saturated of our energy and enthusiasm levels i.e completely stressed out, as a majority in our society? Where does our country India stand at the stress rate (race!) in the world?

In India, our GDP growth rate has increased by 8%, despite of the ongoing recession in the last few years. Is the developing economy contributing the the rising stress rate? Lets search out. . .

When we probe into the atomic unit of society i. e The family structure; there are not many families today which can term as carefree, contented and jointly closely knit. The termite of stress effects the families in the following ways:-

LACK OF TIME

With the economic development, there are increased opportunities, increased traffic on roads with lower costing automobiles and higher spending prowess. All these lead to increased commutation time to workplaces and back.

It is a constant race against time, for, the kids’ schools’ are more demanding, their studies demand more time, high lifestyles require better jobs, better jobs require (mostly) long working hours and commutation time and what heads the heap to stress is the overall inflated prices of commodities.

THE MINDSETS, UPBRINGING AND STRUGGLES OF THE WORKING WOMEN OF TODAY

Today’s modern women is the seed of cut throat education environment. Parents in fact, today, are more keen to make their daughters get higher education, in order to make them self reliant and financially independent. This makes their daughters secure against any ill fate, they might have to face in our still very orthodox society. As a consequence, the modern woman is highly ambitious and does not like to make sacrifices on her career. She expects her male counterpart to equally contribute in the homemaking. With working parents’ nine to five and in fact even longer working span of today, the household chores and the upbringing of the kids are always on the jigsawing beam balance which is somehow managed and controlled.

STUDENTS CAUGHT IN THE MAZE OF OLD CLERICAL TYPE OF INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM AND DEMANDS OF THE MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES.

History holds that our education system went through, but, moderate changes, after Independence. The write-mug up and deliver system is still prevalent which only reproduces copy notes mugged up brats. The values of attainment of general awareness and practical know-how are hardly emphasized. Thus, the dilemma of competitive exams, multinational companies and the general knowledge level hangs the largest on the heads of the Indian youth. The memorization approach does not allow and teach the students to think Independently. The American system, on the other hand, for example, lays stress on the Individual development and expression of opinions from an early age.

THE RAISED ASPIRATIONS OF TODAY’S TECHNO WIZ AND LIFESTYLE CONSCIOUS GENERATION.

The mobiles, LCD’s, branded Apparels, iPods and hi-tech everything from the kitchen to the furnishings to the automobiles make the young restless and overambitious. In our Americanising Society, the time for the elderly is always put on the postponement or better say, altogether neglected upon. Old age homes and community centres for the homes are fast enumerating in the metros of our country. Granny’s stories, if have access to, is only towards the very young lot. Youth does not have the time, nor the inclination to gather from their senior’s experiences which they very conveniently, suppress as wide generation gaps, techno vis a vis lifestyle gap. In other words, they mean they value less the old principles and values of living. Besides, severe competitive and hectic lifestyle give little way to the time for communicate with grandparents.

‘U’ TURN TOWARDS THE PATH OF RELAXATION

We need to identify the need and use of merging the upcoming development and growth as well as the modern lifestyles and attitudes with our traditional values properly;for this we must begin to realize the righteousness and justness of ancient disciplinary philosophies which profess yoga, meditation as well as the philosophies for disciplined and a balanced life. But definitely, India needs to shed off the whims and orthodox distastes of the post ancient era.

The way we respond to stress, also, makes much of the difference. The time management workshops, ‘art of living organisation’are such organizations which are much a dire need for today’s society. In fact, professions are evolving from the stress management fields as in the areas of counselors, therapists, mediation, yoga, addiction recovery etc.

Some claim to have developed machines for stimulating various brain waves which further helps to achieve high levels of relaxation, concentration, as well as sparkling creativity!. However the authenticity and the effectiveness, till date cannot be opined upon. In my opinion, a machine can only be accepted uptill the limit of massaging a person but stimulating creativity by brain waves is perhaps a bit farfetched a phenomenon.

However, the counseling and therapy programs provide us with the right attitudes and mindsets, to build an umbrella against stress!.

There are various books to combat stress. These books besides other things help to divulge on a happy hormones family diet. Other accentuated factors are the ‘happy go lucky attitude’ and a carefree disposition.

Some of the well known books are ‘the guide to stress reduction ‘by Dr Mason. Then, there is this book on relaxation and stress reduction by Martha Davis. A handbook on stress management by Lori Leyden -Rubenstein is also helpful from the scientific and Mind-Body-Spirit strategies’ point of view.

NEED TO PRIORITIZE AND LET GO

There thus, requires the heart to realize how important your smile and a happy heart is as in comparison to your credentials, bank balance and your family, and let things be gone and sacrificed with no regrets, as a truly lived life is a happily lived life. Best of living buddies!
