Cure Yourself Using Biofeedback

If you are looking to improve health, try using your mind. Through biofeedback, health is improved without the use of medication. The ability to use mind power in this way has been demonstrated in numerous scientific research studies. In fact, research has shown that biofeedback helps control or remedy approximately 150 different medical conditions, such as hot flashes, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, Reynards disease, headaches, incontinence, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, epilepsy, and side-effects of chemotherapy, such as vomiting and nausea.

1. What Is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback involves teaching the body to control involuntary responses, such as blood pressure, brain activity, heart rate, and muscle tension. Through these techniques, a person can treat both physical and mental health problems. Biofeedback can also help prevent health problems and provide the practitioner with overall improved health and a greater sense of well-being. Through the use of biofeedback, a person can potentially eliminate the need to use medication. Similarly, biofeedback can help treat illnesses that have been unresponsive to medication.

2. How Does It Work?

A person can be trained in biofeedback with the help of a therapist specially trained in the field. Generally, a session for training in biofeedback takes 30 to 60 minutes. During one of these sessions, the therapist places electrical sensors on different parts of the body in order to monitor the way the body responds to stress. These responses, such as muscle contractions, will trigger a response with the equipment being used for monitoring, such as a beeping sound. In this way, the person being trained in biofeedback can begin to make associations between the bodys responses with the way the body is functioning.

3. Biofeedback Applications

During a therapy session, the person being trained in biofeedback attempts to adjust his bodys responses. The person receives continual feedback from the equipment being used. If the body continues to react in an adverse fashion, the beeping number of beeping sounds might increase. This means the problem is getting worse. If the beeping decreases, the problem is getting better. In this way, the person learns what activities help reduce the problem and what activities aggravate it.

4. The Biofeedback Process

There are many different types of machine used to help in the biofeedback process. An Electromyogram (EMG) uses sensors or electrodes to measure tension in muscles. This is especially helpful in learning how to control grinding of teeth and to relax muscles, particularly in the head, back, and neck. It can also help with illnesses that become worse in stressful situations, such as ulcers and asthma. By using an EMG, the person learns to recognize these feelings early and is then able to control the feelings of tension immediately.

5. Monitoring Biological Signals

You can also moniter the body’s temperature by using sensors. Often, body temperatures drop when under stress. Therefore, a low temperature indicates a need to begin performing relaxation techniques. This type of biofeedback is especially helpful for people with Reynards disease or who suffer from migraines. Other sensors can be used to measure sweat glad activity. This is called Galvanic Skin response training. Excessive perspiration can be a sign of anxiety. Understanding this form of biofeedback and how the body reacts can help control anxiety, as well as phobias and stuttering.

6. The EEG

An Electroencephalogram (EEG) can also be used in biofeedback training. The EEG is capable of monitoring brain waves. These brain waves are connected to a variety of mental states, including relaxation, wakefulness, and calmness. A qualified biofeedback therapist can be found by contacting the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA). The BCIA can provide names of certified therapists in specific areas of the United States.

7. Treating Heart Disorders

Biofeedback has also been used to help treat stroke victims who have lost movement in their muscles. In addition, psychologists use biofeedback to help east anxious clients and many specialists use biofeedback to help patients learn to deal with pain. Cardiac arrhythmias, high and low blood pressure, epilepsy, and digestive system disorders have also been successfully treated with biofeedback.

8. It Works

Patients say biofeedback works for them. It’s all about undertstanding your body and learning to read yourself by a guide to show you how to do it in the first place.

Transcendental Meditation Benefits, How to do Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental meditation is a movement founded by Maharishi (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) in 1957. It started with an organization named Spiritual Regeneration Movement. Maharishi aimed to establish a teaching center of transcendental meditation for every million people of the world’s population.

Transcendental meditation was taught for the first time in the West about fifty years ago by the physician and philosopher Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It soon became very popular around the world because of its many positive effects. This particular meditation technique is independent of local values, religions, faiths and political convictions.

Environment-While it is certainly enjoyable to practice the Transcendental Mediation technique in a quiet place it is not necessary. Many busy people in all walks of life practice the TM technique in airports, train stations, lobbies and hotel rooms. Because the TM technique is an automatic and natural response of the mind and body, the process is easy in any kind of environment whether it is quiet and secluded or noisy and public.

Much of the research into the psychological and physiological effects of meditation has been carried out in relation to TM. It shows that the level of rest achieved is deeper than sleep. Another major finding is that meditation produces all the body responses opposite to the flight-or-fight response characteristic of stress. During meditation, breathing slows, the heartheat becomes shallower, the muscles relax, blood pressure normalizes, and there are compositional changes in hlood and skin that indicate a reduction in tension.

But many are not aware of their true potential. They have contentedly dwelled on what they are capable of through their material selves, which is but limited. Immensely limited. But the mind and soul which is infinitely substantial can be drawn upon to meet with the endless boundaries of being. People perennially search for happiness, success and a better quality of living. Most everybody takes part in the quest for a blissful existence. Many are eager and look forward to the promises of tomorrow and the more pleasant life it can bring. Or there are those who cling to possessions and experiences which give joy and satisfaction.

The transcendental form of meditation is one in which the practitioner calms the mind in order to achieve a higher state of consciousness allowing for a greater flow of thought. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founded Transcendental Meditation, often referred to as TM, in the late 1950’s.

Transcendental meditation is simple to learn and implement. It is neither mental discipline nor mind control. It is neither concentration nor you have to control your muscles or breathing. A person practicing transcendental meditation is not happy for a day or month but quite contended of all his or her years.

Uncontrolled pain is one of the most common reasons for patients to seek medical care. What Different Meditation Methods Can I Use For the Best Meditation Results?

There are a multitude of different meditation methods available. The one that you end up using on a regular basis is usually a matter of personal preference but here are some different methods that you should consider.

1. Join a local class

This is often people’s first port of call as it provides both confidence and the social aspect of meditating with other like minded people. The precise method of meditation used depends on the class, so if you had one method in mind then it pays to check whether or not that’s the one being practised. Quite often the class is combined with yoga as that’s another great way to relax.

2. Walking meditation

This is a method that’s favored by beginners and experienced meditators alike. The beauty of using a walking meditation is that it’s available near enough anywhere and you don’t need any special equipment over and above what you’re already wearing. Choose a nice place to walk if possible – a park or following a river bank for instance – but even that is not essential. Then place your focus on both your walking and also the things that you see, hear, feel and smell as you go about your walk.

The intensity of this process can be quite amazing. Many people report that when they actually focus, they notice things that have passed them by on numerous previous occasions. Try it for yourself – there’s a good chance that even if you’re been using the same route for months or years, you’ll notice new things along your way.

3. Mantra meditation

This is the method that you have probably seen in movies where there is a room full of monks, all chanting the same thing (often the word “Om”) at the same time for what seems like forever. The idea of using a mantra meditation is that you place your entire focus on repeating the mantra over and over again, allowing your mind to rid itself of all the distracting thoughts that have been cluttering it up. A session of even ten or fifteen minutes will leave you refreshed and raring to go, with a new found sense of clarity in your mind.

4. Candle meditation

This is quite similar to the mantra meditation and may even be combined with it by some people. In this instance, your focus is on the flickering flame of the candle. The idea again is that this process will allow your mind to clear itself of all the thoughts and worries that build up in our everyday lives. Following the flame of the candle – and nothing else – is a great way to unwind yourself and allow yourself to relax with this easy meditation method.

5. Binaural beats meditation

This isn’t like the other methods as it almost doesn’t involve you in the process, other than listening to a specially recorded MP3 file. The audio does the whole meditation process for you, taking you into a deep state of relaxation whilst you listen to the sound of rainfall or a new age track.

7 Meditation Benefits – How Regular Meditation Can Help You Be Healthier and Happier

One of the questions that gets raised regularly is are there any meditation benefits that you can expect to get from meditating on a regular basis. It’s a fair question to ask if you’re going to be dedicating part of your life (even if it’s only 15 or 20 minutes a day) to meditation. Here are some of the benefits you can expect:

1. Lower oxygen consumption

This sounds quite an odd benefit. And you may be asking why this would be of benefit – after all, you’ve coped perfectly well to date with the amount of oxygen you’re consuming. But a lower oxygen consumption has various benefits for your health.

2. Lower blood pressure

Blood pressure is one of the things that doctors always like to monitor. It’s a good measure of how healthy we are. Regular meditation has been shown to help reduce blood pressure to the extent that some people have either cut down or completely given up their blood pressure medication. Which has to be beneficial both to your heart and to your wallet.

3. More relaxed

In general, people who meditate on a regular basis are more relaxed than those who don’t use this chance for natural relaxation. Your state of relaxation isn’t only for the relatively small number of minutes where you’re actually meditating. It extends for much longer periods than that, even up to the complete day in some circumstances.

4. Boosts your immune system

Some research has shown that regular meditation is beneficial to your body’s immune system. In turn, this can help to fight some of the nastier diseases that we too often encounter in our modern society.

5. Reduces tension and headaches

This is likely another side effect of the relaxation process of meditation. The relaxation will help to reduce tension in your body. In turn, this will reduce the stresses that often manifest themselves as headaches and other pains.

6. Slows the aging process

Think about it – your heart is beating slower, your blood pressure is lower, you’re more relaxed. You couldn’t get a doctor to prescribe much more than this if they were aiming to naturally slow down the aging process. It’s a great “side effect” of meditation!

7. Helps reduce alcohol and other addictions

Usually we resort to alcohol and tobacco to help us relax, even though we know that alcohol is actually a depressant and tobacco is probably the most addictive legal drug available today. Regular meditation will help you to reduce your dependencies, whether you’re just in the starting stages or further advanced.
